You should expect some swelling and bruising over the first one to two weeks.. It is not very painful, and you will be prescribed both pain relief medication and antibiotics from the hospital.

Remove any dressing when advised to do so by Dr Djakovic.

Ensure that you wear comfortable underwear in the first few weeks after surgery. 

You may wish to take a few days of work to recover

  • Don't overdo things in the first few days after surgery. You will have had a general anaesthetic and you may feel tired at first

  • Tale showers rather than baths in the first week.
  • Avoid strenuous activities and sport for six weeks after surgery
  • When you feel comfortable at the wheel, you can resume driving, but try to avoid driving for the first three days.

  • Ensure you complete the course of antibiotics, even f you feel well.

  • You can apply a cold pack wrapped in a tea towel for ten minutes at a time if needed.
  • Keep your penis upright in the pans at first
  • Do not have intercourse or masturbate for 6 weeks. You will get erections which may be uncomfortable at first

Call us if ……………

  • You have pain that that is increasing and does ease with medication
  • You have a temperature over 38°C.
  • Your wound opens 
  • You notice any bleeding
  • You have signs of infection, such as:
    • Increased pain, swelling, warmth, or redness.
    • Red streaks leading from the incision.
    • discharge draining from the incision.
    • A high temperature and/or you feel unwell
    • You have difficulty urinating.
