Q1. What is Penis Enlargement Surgery ?

Penis enlargement surgery is a surgical procedure to increase the flaccid length and the flaccid and erect girth of the penis. Whilst most patients choose to have both the lengthening and thickening of the penis at the same time, it is possible to just lengthen or thicken the penis. The procedure takes one hour under general anaesthetic and is performed by a Specialist Urologist.

Q2.  How does Penis Enlargement Surgery work?

The lengthening of the penis is done by releasing the suspensory ligament from its attachments to the pubic bone. This allows the penis to advance forward, leading to a flaccid length increase of between one and two inches. The length increase is not the same for every man, but most achieve a one-inch increase. The penis girth is increased by transferring fat from the belly and inner thighs to the penis, after purification of the fat. This results in a girth increase of between one and two inches, depending on the initial absorption after surgery. The girth is increased in both the flaccid and erect states.

Q3.  What are the different types of Penis Enlargement Surgery?

There are basically two types. The ligamentous surgery which increases the flaccid length of the penis and the autologous fat transfer which increases the penis girth , both flaccid and erect.  In most cases patients choose to have the ligamentosis surgery and the autologous fat transfer at the same time, since this yields the best result for most.

Q4.  How long does Penis Enlargement Surgery take?

The procedure is performed under general anesthetic and take one hour. Patients are ale to go home on the same day.

Q5.  What is the recovery process after Penis Enlargement Surgery?

It is advisable to take around three days off work with a sedentary job. Those with more physical work will need to take around one week off work. No gym , sport or sexual activity for six weeks. Massage of the penis is very important in the first few weeks after surgery to help maintain symmetry as some of the fat breaks down in the early stages of recovery.

Q6.  Are the results of Penis Enlargement Surgery permanent?

Yes, the results of penis enlargement surgery are permanent. Patients can choose to have a second fat transfer in the future, but the ligament release to increase the length of the penis is a one time procedure.

Q7.   Are there non-surgical alternatives to Penis Enlargement Surgery?

An alternative to penis enlargement surgery are penis fillers. These increase penis girth and are performed under local anesthesia The results of these treatments tend to last between one and two years, and need repeating to maintain the penis size. Penis fillers are performed using hyaluronic acid. Penis extenders can also be tried but need to be used daily for a period of one year.

Q8.  Can Penis Enlargement Surgery improve sexual performance?

Some patients who undergo penis enlargement surgery report better sexual experiences because their confidence levels improve after the surgery. Moreover, the bigger penis can be more satisfying for their partners. This is very subjective however and most men choose to have surgery to boost their own self confidence.

Q9.  Will Penis Enlargement Surgery affect sensation or pleasure?

Sensation and pleasure are very subjective from person to person. Most of the sensitivity is in the penis glans ( the head of the penis). Pens enlargement surgery does not touch this area. When men feel their confidence is boosted due to their new penis size, sex can be a more pleasurable experience for them.

All surgical procedures carry a risk of infection. Patients are given a course of antibiotics to take for one week after the surgery. Even so, infection is always possible. In penis enlargement surgery at Moorgate Andrology, around 1% of patients will get an infection that will require further treatment.

Q20   Are there any long-term effects of Penis Enlargement Surgery?

Penis enlargement surgery has been described in medical literature for over 30 years. In the last ten years techniques have improved considerable leading to better outcomes for patients.

Q21   Why don’t Moorgate Andrology use silicone buffers for lengthening surgery ?

We used to use silicone buffers in penis lengthening surgery until a couple of years ago. Silicone buffers are testicular implants that are used to prevent ligament reattachment. The downside of silicone buffers is that should the patient get an infection the silicone buffers may require removal, which means another surgical procedure. Also, we found cases where the buffers dislodged leading to patients being able to feel them in the pubic area. In those cases they were also removed in a surgical procedure. Our technique uses the patents own native tissues to act as a barrier to prevent ligament reattachment. The advantage of this technique is that no silicone buffers have to be used, and the patient does not then need to have an implant in their body for the rest of their lives. We are the only provider in the United Kingdom offering this advanced feature.
