General advice after labaiaplasty surgery

 

Following labia reduction surgery , you may apply an ice pack on the surgical site until the morning after surgery. This will help with the amount of post-operative swelling and discomfort. It is normal to have swelling and bruising of the labia. This will be resolved over the following weeks. Try to rest in the first few days.  Take the medication prescribed for you 

ACTIVITES

There will be relatively minor discomfort with the Labiaplasty for most patients.

However, some patients do experience moderate to severe swelling that can cause some discomfort. Remember to use ice packs if the swelling requires attention as this will help take the swelling down

Patients who experience minimal swelling and bleeding should be able to resume sedentary work activities within a few days. It is advisable to avoid strenuous exercise for six weeks

SEX

You may resume sexual activity as soon as the wounds are completely healed. Most patirnts will refrain from sexual activity for six weeks

EXERCISE

Please avoid strenuous exercise for six weeks weeks after surgery. This is to avoid bleeding, bruising, and swelling. If you are in doubt about th resumption of exercise please ask our patient care team

DRIVING

You may resume driving after a few days when you are comfortable sitting for long periods

SUN EXPOSURE

Do not expose the area to the sun without sun block for 12 months

WORK

Take a few day off work , if you have a physical job then you may need at least one week off work

HEALING OF SENSORY NERVES

The skin of the labia may be partially numb for several months while the wounds are healing.

MEDICATIONS

Please take your antibiotics given on discharge and the pain relief medication as needed.

FOLLOW UP

Your specialist will want to see you for follow up support and checks. Please make sure that you attend all appointments as required.
