Scrotoplasty aftercare instructions

What do do following a Scrotoplasty

Take things easy for the first few days. Try to relax and rest if you feel tired after the general anesthetic.

Do not retire to your bed. Walk around for a few minutes every couple of hours to maintain good circulation.

You must avoid sporting activities, heavy lifting and sexual activity for six weeks, or until your Urologist informs you that it is safe to do so.

Avoid direct pressure on the scrotum such as riding a motorbike , horse riding , for  six weeks.

You may apply an ice pack to any swelling of the scrotum ( cover the ice pack with a thin towel before applying to the skin ). Use for ten minutes on and ten minutes off.

You should plan to wear supportive underwear for the first week , you may wear supportive underwear at night. This will help to minimize swelling as much as possible.

THE WOUND

Your incision has absorbable sutures that will dissolve on their own within a few weeks. Some will fall out even earlier. Do not be tempted to pull the stitches. Let them fall out on their own. You will have some redness as the sutures dissolve but this should occur only around the sutures. If there is generalized redness, especially with increasing pain, discharge from the wound or swelling, let us know.

The scrotum will very likely get 'black and blue' during the first few days after your surgery. Ths is normal and it will settle own over time

Your scrotum may appear larger than it was before, again this will settle in the weeks after your surgery.

If you feel the swelling is getting worse rather than settling down,  please let us know.

You may shower 3 days following your surgery. Please do not take baths for four weeks.

DISCHARGE MEDICATION

You will be discharged with antibiotics and pain relief medication. Please ensure that you complete the course of the antibiotics even if you feel better sooner than expected.
